ECIU Smart grid animation
The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) is a non-profit organisation that supports informed debate on energy and climate change issues in the UK. They support journalists, parliamentarians and other communicators with accurate and accessible briefings on key issues, and work with individuals and organisations that have interesting stories to tell.
‘Smart grids’, are the future of energy production, storage and distribution: smart grids integrate a range of technologies to balance supply and demand across the energy system, and across different times and locations, which has the potential to save billions of pounds each year.
We created a 90-second animation on the subject, designed to reach a particular group of MPs and persuade them of the evidence-based case for smart grids. We approached the project by holding a number meetings with ECIU, to make sure we had a thorough understanding of this technical subject. We then worked on a voiceover script that condensed the important and persuasive messages, and developed a clear, on-brand, infographic-based visual style that allowed us to reinforce the voiceover messages and include extra visual details as appropriate. From this full animation, we also produced 6 shorter animations (or ‘minimations’) as 8-second GIFs, as well as 6 static Twitter cards. These are more easily shareable, so better for social media, and for targeting specific messages to certain audiences.
