CDKN – ‘Mainstreaming climate compatible development’ online report
‘Mainstreaming climate compatible development’, is a major report from the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), synthesizing the first five years of the organisation’s work. Aimed at policy-makers, this collection of in-depth research aims to highlight CDKN’s achievements and put climate compatible development at the heart of global debate.
The report needed to represent CDKN’s key values and attributes: knowledgeable, collaborative, accessible and supportive. So we produced this as a digital-first report, with online functionality informing everything. A common look and feel, and the same compelling stories and images, were brought across to the printed publication, creating a cohesive project across print and web.
The digital-first approach prioritises the reader, making on-screen reading of long-form, complex and content-rich documents an enjoyable experience. We have added features and design elements to bring CDKN’s research to life: links throughout the text, to a wealth of external resources on CDKN’s main site, are clearly signposted yet unobtrusive; the Contents page is visually impactful and makes it easy to explore the chapters; dynamic footnotes improve user navigation and encourage readers to become more absorbed and engaged; content is collapsible and expandable where appropriate; we have made individual chapters shareable and downloadable; videos, infographics and compelling images are included throughout; and fully-responsive design means the reader experience is equally good on all devices.
