Art at the British Academy: Studiolo study by Patrick Hughes
In addition to its core work as a voice for the humanities and social sciences, the British Academy is custodian of a rich and varied art collection. Much of the collection is on display in the Academy’s London premises. We have produced a number of films for the Academy, mostly for use on their website and in outreach campaigns.
In 2015, artist Patrick Hughes produced a version of his reverse-perspective relief work A Study of the Studiolo specifically for the waiting room at the Academy.
We created this short film – of the artist in discussion with art historian Dawn Adès FBA – both to celebrate this striking work, and to showcase the dynamic perspectives required to appreciate it, something that static photography can’t capture.
